Not getting what you want?

July 30th, 2008

How committed are you to your dreams and ambitions?

There is power in absolute conviction and the commitment to do whatever it takes to move you forward.

Consider the following quote:

“Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issue from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no many could have dreamt would come his way.” W.H. Murray

Here’s an exercise that I am practicing myself right now to increase the level of commitment to my goals:

I have created a commitment statement. Like an affirmation, it states: I am committed to…. creating…… Several times a day, I stop and focus and re-commit. I am very intentional about creating the feeling of strong commitment during this exercise.

And, guess what? I am noticing that opportunities are appearing, and successes are mounting almost without effort. Hmmm. Maybe this actually works?

What would you commit to 110% if you knew you couldn’t fail?

Why don’t you try it on for size? Let me know how it goes!

Who would you be?

If you were a super hero, who would you be? What are the qualities you would be admired for? What would you look like? What super human powers would you have?

Don’t know what you love to do?

July 25th, 2008

When I work with clients to help them identify the things they love to do, they often get stumped. They tell me they don’t know what it is they really enjoy.

Of course, they do. But, it’s easy to get into that rut and be blind to those things that really get you energized and enthused.

Here’s a great idea I got from reading an article in the Readers Digest this morning:

Keep a diary of everything you do during your day. Then, at the end of the day, rate those activities on a scale of, say, 1 - 5. Number 1 being “I hate doing this, I wish I never had to do it again” to number 5 being “wow! that was great. I could have done that all day”.

Do this for a week or so, and you should start to see some patterns emerge. You will have visible proof of what you really love to do! Simple? I thought so.

Wanna give it a try?

I will wait…..

I WILL WAIT……………
Here is a story and a moral about having faith and taking action:

A big flood hit a village. Everyone was evacuated and fled for safety, except for one man who said, “God will save me.
I have faith.” As the water level rose, a jeep came to rescue him but he refused help and said, “God will save me. I have faith.”

As the water level rose further, he went up to the second story, and a boat came to help him. Again he refused to go saying, “God will save me. I have faith.”

The water kept rising and finally he climbed to the roof. A helicopter came to rescue him, but he said, “God will save me. I have faith.”

Finally he drowned.

When he came face to face with his Maker he angrily commented, “I have complete faith in you. Why did you ignore my prayers and let me drown?” The Lord replied, “Who do you think sent the jeep, the boat, and the helicopter?”

AND THE MORAL?
It doesn’t matter whether we trust in God, the Universe, the Law of Attraction, or anything else if we aren’t willing to take responsibility and help ourselves!

Make your plans and dreams, set and commit to your goals, trust that they will come true. Then seize every opportunity that comes your way! Act now!

Choose to really reach out and take responsibility for creating the life you want.

Another Wine & Life! Quote

July 18th, 2008

“Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried, with fewer tensions and more tolerance.”

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Thank you……

July 17th, 2008

It’s funny how sometimes you hear a song, and all of a sudden the words take on meaning. I was driving yesterday, and heard the song “Thank You” by Alanis Morissette. And, the words just hit home. I’ve obviously heard the song so many times before, but for some reason, this time it was different.

“how bout me not blaming you for everything
how bout me enjoying the moment for once
how bout how good it feels to finally forgive you
how bout grieving it all one at a time”

And, then she thanks the hard things, like terror and disillusionment, and frailty.

It really reminded me that sometimes the hard stuff makes us appreciate the rest of it so much more. And, as she says, just letting go and getting back way more in return.

Hmmm, makes you think. There are so many lessons out there that are just waiting till we’re ready to hear them.

Thank you.

“Green Harvesting”

July 2nd, 2008

“Green Harvesting” is thinning out the grape clusters before they ripen to improve the quality and concentration of the wine. The excess clusters are cut from the vine and discarded.

It makes me think about what we need to “thin out” of our lives. Clutter? Tolerations? Energy drains? Those really annoying people?

Having such densely packed lives these days, we tend to want to keep it all. How much more rich and concentrated would our lives be if we cut off and discarded a bit of our own excess?

I did just that these last few weeks. I cleaned out a lot of junk! I cleaned out my closets and drawers and got rid of all my “skinny” clothes, I cleaned out the bathroom and linen closets. It was a literal purging - and actually kinda fun! I was ruthless.

And, I am noticing that I am feeling much lighter, more optimistic and energetic. I’m more focused, creative and productive. Wow!! I feel GOOD!

Give it a try. What have you got to lose?

Wine and Life quote

June 27th, 2008

One of the wonderful things I love about wine is sharing it with friends and loved ones. Somehow it seems to create a deeper connection.

And obviously, others agree. Here’s a favourite quote about wine and life experiences:

“Drinking good wine with good food in good company is one of life’s most civilized pleasures.”— Michael Broadbent

Cheers!

More good health wine news!

June 26th, 2008

Isn’t it wonderful that wine is getting such good press lately? We’ve seen that moderate (ie: 1 or 2 glasses per day) improves heart health, reduces arthritis, fights fat…. And, now researchers at the University of California - San Diego have found that a glass of wine a day can help fight a dangerous liver disease!

Seems funny to me that we’ve always been told that alcohol harms the liver, but apparently a glass a day is beneficial for liver health.

So I guess those of us that aren’t usually satisfied with just one glass are  not necessarily going to benefit :-( But, it’s good to hear anyways!

My first “blush”

June 25th, 2008

I remember when I first fell in love with Rose’.

We were sitting on a street corner in a little sidewalk cafe in Provence. It was a tiny hilltop village. The sun was out and the weather was warm. We ordered our wine and sipped as we watched the villagers going about their business.

Pure heaven! And, one of my most treasured memories. Isn’t it funny how one glass of wine can change the way we see the world? Through “rose” coloured glasses, maybe.
